Ecclestone: Schumi not retiring
Formula One commercial rights controller Bernie Ecclestone has dismissed speculation that Michael Schumacher is on the verge of retiring.
Ecclestone also rubbished speculation surrounding a possible move by the seven-times world champion to Red Bull Racing when his Ferrari contract expires at the end of the year.
"Schumacher is a winner - I don't see him even thinking about retiring," Ecclestone told The People.
"He races because he enjoys it and has gone beyond the money barrier. He is one of the best drivers ever and just because he wasn't in the race for the championship last year doesn't mean he won't win anymore.
"If anything, it will make him even more determined to come back again. He still has all the desire and speed to win world championships. With Ferrari and their men he's built a strong, loving relationship. He will never race with another team."
Meanwhile, Schumacher himself is feeling quietly confident ahead of the new season, which starts on March 12 in Bahrain..
"My feeling about the coming season is not too bad," he stated. "The Jerez tests did please me, but it is much too early to make predictions. At least when I stepped out of the car I had a satisfying test. We seem to have done a very good job. In 2006 we want to have a say in the outcome of the title again."
