Michael Schumacher began the session at the wheel of the new F2003-GA but, having completed just eight laps - with a best time of 1min 24.250secs - the German noticed a problem on the car and chose to come into the pits, where the crew carried out a complete overhaul.

Michael  then continued the test in an older F2002 - albeit the car that he will begin the new season with - and concentrating on tyre testing and set-up work, covered a total of 43 laps, with a quickest tour of 1min 21.617secs.
